Weekly Likes/ Dislikes in Fashion

Dislike of the Week: Forever 21's Resort Collection

Okay, let me just start by saying, normally I love Forever 21. In fact, I adore Forever 21. Eighty-five to ninety percent of my wardrobe (without exaggeration) is compiled of Forever 21! However, I CANNOT condone, abide or get behind their new 'Forever 21 Collection' trollup line of hideously brazen leopard-print, (okay, I digress, maybe that was a little brazen) but come on, people!

When I went onto the Forever 21 website today with my morning cup of joe, I hadn't physically prepared myself for the sea of tacky, technicolor animal-inspired crop tops and ruched mini dresses that lay before me. In fact, I just have three things to say... 1.) It hit me the wrong way like a mack truck carrying a ton of bricks, and 2.) Seeeeriously? No self-respecting leopard would ever be caught dead looking like this. In fact, it's offensive to leopards everywhere!
3.) Don't even get me started on the color pallette; turquois, fuschia and hot pink!?!? As my friend Jessica would say "Ruh-eeeeally?"

Here are a few items from the collection to feast your eyes on. All I can envision when I look at these clothes are trashy Vegas women at slot machines who are pushing sixty. I digress...Atlantic City.

I see Atlantic City, and Peg Bundy...and while we're at it...the entire cast of 'Jersey Shore' all rolled into one! Who wears this? Where would you wear it, and the most poignant question of them all...whhhyyyyyyyy would you want to?!?!

Now...onto happier things :)

Like of the Week: ModCloth's Optical Illusions Lookbook

There's just something about http://www.modcloth.com/ that's so unique and refreshing. This vintage-inspired clothing and accessories site hasn't even been around that long (only since 2002, really) but they've already got a blog, a huge following and quirky, fun one-of-a-kind items that are beyond cute. Like a fine wine that just seems to get better with age, ModCloth is quickly becoming a fashion force to be reckoned with! The theme of their lookbook at the moment is 'Optical Illusions' and I love how fun and whimsical they've made their layout!

Right now, I'm pining for this delicate but industrial strapless dress equipped with sweetheart neckline. Supposedly inspired by the NYC Chrysler Building itself, his dress combines some of my most favorite elements- princess seams, lace, and muted grays. I'm convinced that gray will be the new black of 2010. It's versatile, neutral and still classy with just of bit of an edge. The darker the hue, the more polished in my opinion. (Terraced Crown Dress...$48)

The dress also works well with the demure and flirtatious v-patterned pair of Nicole Miller tights featured with the dress for just $19.99. It's amazing how fluidly they can adapt to any wardrobe with just a touch of creativity. Plus, they are the perfect accessory when it comes to transforming summer minis and sundresses into winter-ready outfits, thus maximizing your wardrobe in not magically doubling it. Modcloth has a lot of amazing pieces this month and if you're not familiar with this site than you should be!

I'm also quite taken with this 'Street Art Skirt' by Mink Pink ($83...a bit pricy but very indivualist and the pairing options are endless!) worn here . I'm digging the wide waistband and perfectly balanced modern combination of punk meets goth. It just makes me happy :)

So there you have it, friends! My Fashion Likes & Dislikes of the week. It's not always pretty but it's ALWAYS honest!
