This past Saturday my friend Chelsie and I decided to have an official Girl's Day Out! Brunch, evening cocktails, bars, dancing...the whole nine yards. The first stop of the day was a restaurant in alphabet city called Poco, where we stopped for a lovely unlimited cocktail brunch :) It was veeeeery delicious! Any place that has lobster mac-and-cheese, salmon BLT's and the word "unlimited" attached to their menu automatically gets 10 points in my brunching book ;P
Oddly enough, Chelsie and I both own this tribal print American Apparel mini and are always commented on how it seems just a little too "mini" for the daytime. It was my mission on this Saturday morning to discontinue the veracity of this hypothesis - and I think I succeeded. It just took a pair of solid black opaque tights, some casual bohemian booties and a slightly airy statement tee to bring the look together and keep it from getting too PG-13 before noon on a Saturday. Throw on a knee-length wool sweater coat and we're in business. Plus, I've always been fond of the layered look when it comes to working mini skirts up to their full potential. It creates a nice line and when a skirt is as vivid and colorful as this is it balances the overall look out nicely.
- Red/ Black Tribal Mini Skirt (American Apparel...$30...my b-day gift to myself last year)
- Heather Gray "Sassy" tee (Marshalls in TN...$7 and quickly becoming a favorite of mine!)
- Black Opaque Tights (Target...$8 for pair of 2)
- Gray Sweater Duster (H&M on sale...$15)
- Tan Laser Cut Bohemian Boots by Blowfish (Marty & Liz...$17)
Saturday night and I was in a full-throttle girly mood. It was all about chic black and silver metal accents. I love this banded stretch mini with zippers. It's hard to see but it's comprised of multiple strips of fabric and it magically just sucks you in in all the right places (a la Herve Lager). The top portion of my ensemble is actually two pieces; a black thin strapped cami and a sleeveless lace over shirt that I bought for $3 at a thrift store in TN. I make it point to always have lace on-hand in my wardrobe. It's a necessity for every woman in my opinion. Look at Dita Von Tess...she is the epitome of vintage glamor with a heavy dose of sex appeal and girl has more lace garments than a Victoria's Secret warehouse...
I think my outfit overall was pretty smoking...and it helped that my husby's jaw dropped when he saw me in this ;) We drank, we danced, we rallied...we were girly. Sometimes you just need those nights out.
- Black Banded Zipper Mini ( Joyce Leslie...$23)
- Black Camisole (Forever 21...$2.50)
- Black Lace Top (Thrift shop in TN...$3)
- Multi-Strand Silver Necklace (Forever 21...$6.50)
- Black Lattice Heels (Daffy's...$24...I need to get a better shot of these shoes, they are amazing! So sexy and fun and they're incredibly unique - I've yet to see someone else in a pair just like them.)
