Likes/ Dislikes of the Week (The Grammy Edition)

This Past Sunday was Grammy Night! There were lots of performances, lots of awards and lots of fashion-worthy moments! So let's get down to it, shall we, and start with...

Likes of the Week: Grammy Fashion Do's

Not only did Taylor Swift walk away with the Grammy award for Album of the year, this Southern little belle also stole our hearts in this diamond blue "heart-of-the-ocean" sparkly evening gown. There's no denying this girl is slim and statuesque and this dress only enhances the best features of the music starlet. Her hair and make-up were polished to perfection and the overall look was so stunning I suppose I can overlook the fact that in the wrong hands this could look a little 80's sparkle/"Golden Girls"-y.

Okay, okay so Gaga looked a little Glinda-the-Good-Witch-of-the-North meets the year 2025...but I dig it. In fact, she's the only person probably on the planet that could pull off this look at the Grammy's and for THAT, I give her maaa-jor props. She doesn't need to fit into the cookie-cutter red carpet glamour that so many artists do. Gaga is a talent all on her own and her styles are always thought-provoking and imaginative. If Lady Gaga wants to grace us in her mile high heels and innovatively futuristic gown whilst carrying a spiked metal starburst as she glides down the red carpet...let her do it. She's a breath of fresh air, that one! Plus, as odd as it sounds, she somehow manages to make that shade of yellow work!

I think Katy Perry looked cute as a button last night! And I give her 10 extra style points for the Indian-inspired bindi. Known for many of her off-the-wall looks, this is one I can actually get behind. It may not be your average pick but it fits Ms. Perry (soon to be Mrs. Russell Brand) to a "t". She looks radiant and it's a throwback to the classic 70's era. She pulls off this nude body-conscious look effortlessly and it doesn't detract from her flawless beauty in the slightest.

Lea Michelle dazzled in this black beauty. Now I have to say, I have yet to see this girl look bad on the red carpet. From darling gowns to frothy skirts she comes out looking like a winner again and again. When you've got a hit show and fashion looks this good on you, well I guess you can only thank your lucky stars that the style Gods have blessed you.

And now for the unfortunate misses of the evening...

Dislike of the Week: Grammy Fashion Don'ts

J.Lo...I just, well....there's nothing to be said. You came close to the mark but you missed again. There isn't any really gentle way to put this but...YOU CANNOT DRESS LIKE YOU'RE 24 ANYMORE! It's not going to help. People aren't buying it! You've had a good run, eh? You're doing all right with the husband and the twins, aren't you? Let's focus on them a little more and less on "Louboutins" and inappropriate dress choices that only make you look older. You're aging well, though I have to say.

Britney, Britney, Britney. The only thing that could have made this trainwreck of an outfit worse is if she performed in it. This is a look that is not meant for a mother of two who is desperately trying to cling to the last scraps of fame she can get. Not only does it look like she got jiggy with it on the limo ride over and then forgot the bottom portion of her dress but I might, might have been able to forgive her if she hadn't decided to "ho" her look up even further with those horrific fishnet tights! This isn't 'Chicago', Britney! It's adding insult to injury. Verdict: This look works on Gaga, NOT on Britney. Case closed. (P.s....it's also not a good sign when even your date looks mortified.)

I like Jennifer Hudson...I do. This girl has got some serious vocal pipes and she just welcomed a baby into the world. She looks great and I love the fact that she's a curvy woman in the music industry who hasn't sold out to the the "thin-is-in" mentality. Still, shrink-wrapped into a dress so tight that it makes you think of sausage in casing is also not so awesome. If we're being frank here, the girl knows how to squeeze in highlight her assets, but at the cost of limiting her entire lower half. The fit seems off and the material flares at one of the more unflattering points of her frame. Jennifer, we've seen you look better!

Kristen Bell has a lot to celebrate! She just got engaged to Dax Shepard...so I'm trying to wrap my head around the mindset she must have been in when she chose to flaunt her mega fabulous body in this dowdy, shapeless garment. The top half slightly reminds me of the whole Grecian/ Princess Leia/ Gladiator trend that's been fading out while the bottom half  reminds me of the fact that there is absolutely nothing memorable about this dress whatsoever. If that's not bad enough, it flattens her bustline in an odd attempt to draw focus to her chest. In the end, it really only gives the impression that the dress itself might be strangling the starlet. My advice: don't hide that fierce body underneath a frock this flavorless.

This look was debatable...and before we get started I just want to clear the air by saying that it's not that I didn't altogether like this dress. I mean, in all honesty the color is vivid and fun and the gold accessories compliment the curvaceous line of her Pucci mini dress . Still, it's typical Fergie; not bad but not great. She showcases her muscular legs and her impressive cleavage but it still seems like it's missing something while at the same time slightly over the top. I will say that her hair and make-up are natural looking and toned down in order to let the dress shine and be the focal point. In the end, she doesn't hit the bullsye in my opinion but I have to say she can clean up nicely. I enjoyed this only slightly more than her Golden Globes lavender prom dress disaster.

Well, there you have it! Just a few of my thoughts on the red carpet. I unfortunately didn't get to all the dresses/ gowns/ performance outfits I would have liked to but that's the good thing about Award Shows. There are always more to come! :)
