"My 26 Little Summer Must Haves" #18

R is for Radiant, Rich, Ruby Red Lips & Rockstar Glam...

Some of my favorite rock n' roll divas are the ones I go to when I need to gather inspiration in the mornings.

Lately I've been really embracing this whole rockstar glam look. Rihanna seems to have it down to a fine science, managing to always be one step ahead by mixing fierce and fabulous pieces to create an edgy-chic look...a fine balance of "rock" and "glam"; however this is a look that has been perfected and recreated numerous times by a long line of ferocious femmes who have changed the way women in music "rock their frocks", if you will...

Artists like Gwen Stefani made it cool to roll with the boys but still be at the height of fashion when 'No Doubt' came out (A punk-rock-ska princess who still maintained her exsquisite girly-esque demeanor, all while fronting a male-dominent band of boys! Two words...kick ass!), not to mention the fact that Gwen is constantly sporting yet another fashion "must have"....radiant, rich, ruby red lips...CLASSIC GLAM!!! I was pretty obsessed with her in my angsty girly teenage years...if Gwen did it, I did it! The twisted jelly bracelet cuffs, the henna, the A-line tanks with baggy cargos...(sigh) it was pretty magical! LOL, I even had my Mom add mini rhinestones to my bra straps because Gwen happened to wear one just like it on the cover of Rolling Stone...

Now onto Ms. Shirley Manson, who really puts the "rock" in rockstar glam and sizzles as the front woman of Garbage...I remember being in middle school when this band first came out and watching the music video for "Only Happy When It Rains" and thinking that Shirley Manson was the epitome of a vixen-ish rockstar Goddess (and also an avid wearer of red lipstick) ...I then remember racing out to buy my first pair of fishnet tights...

Another of my favorite leading ladies who simply oozes rockstar appeal is lead singer and front woman, Chibi, of the band 'The Birthday Massacre' (and if anyone knows me well, they know that this has quickly become one of my all-time favorite bands that I just cannot get enough of!!!). Mixing salty and sweet, this girl rocks out hard-core in a fashion a la Karen O. of the 'Yeah Yeah Yeahs' onstage but chooses pleated school girl skirts and cutesy white button-ups to balance out the wild make-up choices and jet-black raven hair she sports effortlessly alongside her troop of goth-clad merry men( in a group where the guys covet black eyeliner and foundation, a girl's gotta stand out...and believe me...she does!).

Take a look at the trends of your favorite stars... After all they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I have to admit when it comes to fashion, I find this to be 100%, absolutely true! How else do trends get started? We look to people in the music industry, the fashion world and even Hollywood nowadays to get the latest scoop on what's in and what's out. Now just take that and make it work for you :P
