My friend Sarah would always comment on how I seem to have a plethora of lace items in my wardrobe, and funny enough, it wasn't until she pointed it out I had never really took notice. It wasn't that I had sought out to be a collector of all things lacy, I guess they had just sort of accululating throughout my later years on this planet...
That being said, I feel that lace often gets a bad rep for either being too childish, or too racy. However I have found that lace worn the right way can be intriguingly tasteful, not trashy if you know how to follow a few basic rules:
- A little lace can go a looooong way...you don't want to be covered in it or else you risk looking like a giant walking doily...so not cute!
- Lace in bright or neon colors screams 80's Barbie, not fresh and fabulous.
- Starting small is often the best (and safest) way to go if you're not used to the trend...try a blouse with lace trim or a skirt with lace at the hem.
- If you're going to go all out, do it with evening wear over office wear so that your look can stand out in the best way possible ;)
